The plaques are mounted in beautiful Antique Gilded plaster & wood frames. They depict a Victorian Couple enjoying a Pastoral Play at a Castle-Park of the Rocco.

(see Sticker and Sandizell stamped mark on the back). These are top quality Antique "Meissen Art"!

The pieces measure about 13 1/2" tall x 11" wide x 2 front to back. The Cameo Couple stand out about 2 1/2 in relief and are intricate in every respect. The Meissen Porcelain District in Germany is well know for there top quality porcelain pieces and the Sandizell Porcelain Factory, Sandizell, Bavaria was located in that area.

I found a Sandizell Factory mark in my book, but it wasn't the same, so I can't put an exact date of production on the plaques? Please see the Meissen sticker & the stamped Sandizell mark on the back! I believe they may be about 70+- years old? The minute I saw them, I knew that they would be going home with me. They've been hanging in my Antique decorated living room for all these years, but alas, my age dictates that I start clearing out many of my treasures in preparation for a move from my large Victorian home to a small one.

From the back of the Plaques: In case you can't read the back explanation, here it is: The pastoral plays, performed in the Castle-Parks of the Rocco , were a favorite amusement for grandes Dames and Cavaliers. They were cultivated with spirit and charm and were part of the abundance of the Rococo and of the Happy century. I've never seen the combination of large porcelain Victorian Cameos on a Porcelain Plaque with the figures in such deep relief (2 1/2) and this type of ornate old frame. The wonderful pastel light green porcelain background appears to be part of the cameo, but I can't be sure?
