Extremely rare and beautiful late 18th Century porcelain lion on a bronze d'oré pedestal, done in the Meissen style but an original form with the lion roaring (rather than sad). Made of hard porcelain in France by Porcelaine de la Courtille , established by Jean Baptiste Locré in 1773. CONDITION: Lion sits on his original mercury gilt bronze base which is in excellent condition.

Although previously attached, the lion comes off easily; as there's no danger of the figure slipping off the base, I have left is as found. A previous repair was done with brown epoxy to the base underneath where the lion sits. Overall excellent with minor wear on protruding edges, with no visible evidence of breaks or repairs on the porcelain. There is a long horizontal firing crack along the backside where the lion meets the base. Please look at the photos to see what I mean.
